The first of its kind Porsche 991 7-speed manual transmission
The Porsche 991 7-speed manual transmission may come as “standard”, but there is nothing standard about it. While the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission gets a lot of love from enthusiasts and the automotive press, the 7-speed manual transmission is a revolutionary addition to a long history of exceptional standard transmissions.
Below are just a few of the benefits of this precision gearbox:
- Short and direct shifter throw
- Optimal transition from gear to gear
- Performance gearing ratio on gears 1 through 6
- Longer ratio with reduced torque and increased fuel efficiency in gear 7
- Lower RPMs in 7th gear improve ride quality and comfort during long stretches of highway driving
- A readout in the tachometer indicates your current gear selection,
- Upshift indicator helps reduce fuel consumption
In terms of ergonomics, the redesigned center console elevates the gear lever, placing it in the optimal location for performance gear changes. The 7-Speed (plus reverse) shift pattern is stamped into the metal surface of the gear lever, and is surrounded by leather on three sides. This ensures the beauty and durability of the graphic while still allowing for a firm grip on the gear lever. This combination is the very definition of a seamless pairing of form and function.
